If you are not a resident of the United States, your Clemson University Graduate School application will require traditional supporting materials and additional materials/tests specific to international applicants.

International Applicant Required Supporting Materials

Tests for International Students

TOEFL iBT

  • A satisfactory score (80 or higher) is required of international students whose native language is not English.
  • Clemson’s institution code is 5111.
  • TOEFL iBT scores are valid for two years.

TOEFL Essentials

  • A satisfactory score (8.5 or higher) is required of international students whose native language is not English.
  • Clemson’s institution code is 5111.
  • TOEFL Essential scores are valid for two years.

Duolingo English Test

  • A satisfactory score (115 or higher) is required of international students whose native language is not English.
  • Duolingo English Test scores are valid for two years.

IELTS

  • IELTS can be taken in lieu of TOEFL.
  • A satisfactory score (6.5 or higher) is required of international students whose native language is not English.
  • IELTS scores are valid for two years.

PTE Academic

  • PTE Academic can be taken in lieu of TOEFL.
  • A satisfactory score (54 or higher) is required of international students whose native language is not English.
  • PTE Academic scores are valid for two years.

If you have requested official test scores be sent to Clemson University, allow two weeks for your application status to be updated. If you sent scores before applying, allow one week for your application status to be updated.
