Letters of Recommendation

Most programs require two or three recommendation letters.

On the application, you will be asked for:

  • Recommender(s) name
  • Recommender(s) email address

Once submitted, an email will be sent to your respondent with directions informing them about the process to complete their online letter of recommendation.

To ensure your recommender(s) receive the email with a link and directions to complete their letter of recommendation, please inform each recommender that this email will be coming to them before you submit your application.

If your recommender prefers not to use the online form, you can download the form as a PDF and print it out for them.

Submission options are included on the form.

Transcripts

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an approved institution whose scholastic rating is satisfactory to the University or an equivalent degree from instruction outside the U.S. is required for all graduate students.

If admitted, final official transcripts must be sent directly from the issuing institution to the Clemson University Graduate Admissions office in a sealed envelope.

Submit:

  • A copy of your unofficial transcripts from each institution you attended (and were awarded/will be awarded a degree)
  • Additional relevant coursework

Do Not Submit:

  • Secondary (high school) transcripts
  • Certificates that are not degree certificates

Information Needed on Transcript:

  • Title of the degree earned
  • Date awarded

If the transcript does not note this information, official certificates or diplomas should accompany the transcripts.

Graduate Admissions will not accept faxed copies of transcripts as official. An opened envelope disqualifies a transcript as official.

Community Standards

Clemson University is committed to maintaining a safe environment for all members of our community.

All applicants must answer six questions on the application related to criminal and disciplinary charges.

You are required to provide an explanation for each instance where you answer “yes.” The statement will be used in the review process. The academic program you are applying to will not see these responses. These questions are reviewed by an Applicant Conduct Review Committee (separate from the academic review of your application).

For general information about the University’s values of integrity, honor and respect, see the Office of Community and Ethical Standards.

For more information regarding Graduate School Policy check out the Graduate School Policies and Procedures handbook.
